چکیده

Subthreshold (or membrane potential) resonance refers to the ability of neurons to exhibit a peak in their voltage amplitude response to oscillatory input currents at a preferred (resonant) frequency. Subthreshold (or membrane potential) phase-resonance refers to the ability of neurons to exhibit a zero-phase (or zero-phase-shift) response to oscillatory inputs currents at a non-zero (phaseresonant) frequency. Linear subthreshold resonance refers to the subthreshold resonant properties (amplitude and phase) in linear models. In this article we focus on 2D and 3D linear and linearized conductance-based models. ∗To be published in the Encyclopedia of computational neuroscience

Analysis of the nonlinear axial vibrations of a cantilevered pipe conveying pulsating two-phase flow

The parametric resonance of the axial vibrations of a cantilever pipe conveying harmonically perturbed two-phase flow is investigated using the method of multiple scale perturbation. The nonlinear coupled and uncoupled planar dynamics of the pipe are examined for a scenario when the axial vibration is parametrically excited by the pulsating frequencies of the two phases conveyed by the pipe. Aw...

Stochastic and Coherence Resonance in Hippocampal Neurons

Stochastic Resonance (SR) is a phenomenon observed in nonlinear systems whereby the introduction of noise enhances the detection of subthreshold signals. Both computer simulations and experimental recordings in the hippocampal brain slice have shown that stochastic resonance could play a significant role to enhance the detection of synaptic potentials generated in distal synapses. The noise var...

Microelectrode demonstration of Wedensky facilitation in canine cardiac Purkinje fibers.

Microelectrode techniques were used to examine changes in excitability of canine Purkinje fibers at sites distal to complete conduction block. Immediately distal to a site where impulse propagation failed, it was possible to record subthreshold depolarizations. Intracellular stimulation of the Purkinje cells exhibiting these subthreshold responses with constant-current pulses of subthreshold in...

A model of intracellular θ phase precession dependent on intrinsic subthreshold membrane currents.

A hippocampal place cell fires at an increasingly earlier phase in relation to the extracellular theta rhythm as a rodent moves through the place field. The present report presents a compartment model of a CA1 pyramidal cell that explains the increase in amplitude and the phase precession of intracellular theta oscillations, with the assumption that the cell receives an asymmetric ramp depolari...

Frequency Preference Response to Oscillatory Inputs in Two-dimensional Neural Models: A Geometric Approach to Subthreshold Amplitude and Phase Resonance

We investigate the dynamic mechanisms of generation of subthreshold and phase resonance in two-dimensional linear and linearized biophysical (conductance-based) models, and we extend our analysis to account for the effect of simple, but not necessarily weak, types of nonlinearities. Subthreshold resonance refers to the ability of neurons to exhibit a peak in their voltage amplitude response to ...
